Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas Cruise Compass 7 Days Bahamas + Perfect Day 2024

royal caribbean blog cruise compass

Royal Caribbean used to hand out paper copies of the Cruise Compass every night, detailing the next day’s activities. Now, they’re moving towards digital, offering paper copies only if you ask for them. It’s a daily newsletter that tells you about the day’s activities, shows, dining spots, and important news. Our second-to-last sea day was also a formal night, with a “Dress to Impress” dress code in the Main Dining Room. Also, on selected ships, your Cruise Compass will be loaded onto the Royal Caribbean International App. This way you can plan your time onboard directly from your mobile device!

Day 7 – Perfect Day at CocoCay

royal caribbean blog cruise compass

We recently sailed on the Mariner of the Seas for a 2 Night Weekend Bahamas cruise from Port Canaveral, Florida. The Daily Planner is Royal Caribbean’s daily activities schedule, and is delivered each night to your cabin during turn-down service as well as digitally on the Royal Caribbean App app. All the onboard activities for the following day will be listed, such as events, showtimes, drink specials, entertainment, and other things happening around the ship. These newsletters are a guide to everything that is happening on the cruise each day.

Choosing Between Physical and Digital

It also provides details about the amazing ports you’ll visit and so much more. It’s easy to pack into your bag or pocket so that you don’t skip a beat! Plan your cruise your way and enjoy everything your ship has to offer.

Royal Caribbean might stop making the Cruise Compass one day, but it seems like they know the app isn’t quite there yet. Trying to read the Cruise Compass on a phone can be a hassle because the screen is so small. The app has all the info you find in the Cruise Compass, but they look pretty different. In this article, I’ll show you how it makes every cruise unforgettable.

Physical vs Digital Copy

The compasses change with each sailing and in most cases won't populate until the week of your sailing. There is a compass link for past cruises, but the info won't fully be relevant. Personally, I much prefer the layout of the cruise compass, as it has a very handy daily snapshot and tips and highlights for each day.

In addition to a listing of everything happening onboard, guests can add specific events directly to their own digital calendar for easy tracking. As you make reservations or add activities directly from the daily Cruise Compass to your calendar, your schedule is automatically updated. Royal Caribbean provides a lot of programming for children and teenagers on their ship. Some events make it onto the regular Cruise Compass, but there are even more events listed in special daily planners just for the kids.

To download a copy, just look for the large QR codes located at strategic points around the ship. You’ll also see them on the racks where you used to be able to pick spare copies of the cruise compass. Also, on select ships, your Cruise Compass will be loaded onto the Royal Caribbean International App. This way you can plan your time onboard straight from your mobile device!

In the past, Royal Caribbean provided a paper copy of the Cruise Compass. This paper version would be delivered each evening to passengers’ staterooms, outlining the following day’s events. Additionally, the Cruise Compass also contains helpful information about the opening times of all the venues and restaurants, upcoming port visits, and any potential changes in the itinerary. Generally speaking, Royal Caribbean sailings on a particular ship do not change that much from week to week in terms of the activities or entertainment offered. There will be some discrepancies, but an old Cruise Compass can give you a good ballpark of expectations to plan around.

With society shifting towards digital consumption, many cruise fans have assumed a digital-only Cruise Compass is an inevitability. Depending on the ship, there are also other ways to see activities, such as on a designated channel on the in-room television and/or via the wayfinders in the hallways. Ms. Fraser reported there are QR codes at both Guest Services and sent to the cabin that you can scan with your phone's camera. Karen Fraser shared photos in the Liberty of the Seas Facebook group of the new option.

Design pixel-perfect content like flyers, magazines and more with Adobe InDesign. Create professional content with Canva, including presentations, catalogs, and more. Highlight your latest work via email or social media with custom GIFs.

It offers you insight into the next day's weather, which bars will have drink specials, shore excursion information and much more. For years, the printed Cruise Compass was the only option, but Royal Caribbean's app has also offered a list of activities. On Liberty of the Seas, guests have the option to get a digital download of the Cruise Compass directly to their phone in the form a PDF file. Traditionally passengers receive a copy each evening in their stateroom that outlines the following day's events.

The option to download a copy of the printed Cruise Compass is a new way to learn about what's happening onboard the ship. Most of the activities listed on the Cruise Compass newsletter will apply on ships in the Voyager Class. These ships include Voyager of the Seas, Explorer of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, and Navigator of the Seas.

GMs Cruise Cuts About 25 Percent of Its Workers The New York Times

cruise layoffs 2023

We have also ended additional assignments of contingent workers who support our driverless operations, as we refined our go forward plans. In October, the California Department of Motor Vehicles suspended Cruise's deployment and testing permits for its autonomous vehicles, alongside a statement that said, "When there is an unreasonable risk to public safety, the DMV can immediately suspend or revoke permits." Workers will remain on the payroll through February 12 and will be eligible for an additional eight weeks of pay, with long-term employees offered an additional two weeks’ pay per every year at Cruise over three years, according to the email to staff. Anyone laid off will also receive their 2023 bonus (eligible target payout) on January 5, 2024.

Billionaire Telegram CEO says he was attacked in SF after 2014 Jack Dorsey meeting

“The 24% or so was a surprise in terms of the numbers that we saw coming out,” the laid-off employee said. The employee said they realized they were among the positions affected when Slack access was shut off Thursday morning. Cruise confirmed that the RLO has ended but declined to answer questions about what that means for employees. General Motors has lost some $8 billion on Cruise since 2017, according to financial filings, and this year has spent at least $1.9 billion on the company. Last month, GM said it would cut the subsidiary’s funding by “hundreds of millions” of dollars in 2024.

Cruise wants to “enhance our safety standards and processes before we scale,” company co-president and CTO Mo ElShenawy wrote in a letter to employees announcing the layoffs today. A company blog post said that 24 percent of full-time Cruise employees will be let go, with a focus on field and commercial operations, and corporate staffing, though some engineers are also affected. The company had already cut last month a portion of its contingent workforce who kept self-driving vehicles clean, charged, and maintained. The news follows a barrage of safety concerns and incidents since Cruise, owned by General Motors, received approval in August for round-the-clock robotaxi service in San Francisco.

GM's Cruise laying off 900 employees, or 24% of its workforce: Read the memo here

"Cruise has made the difficult decision to reduce a portion of the contingent workforce that supported driverless ridehail operations," a company spokesperson told CNBC in a statement. "These contingent workers were responsible for work such as cleaning, charging and maintaining the fleet, and we're grateful for their contributions." Cruise, the GM self-driving car subsidiary, has started laying off contingent workers after pausing all of it driverless operations and losing key commercial permits that allowed it to operate a robotaxi service in San Francisco. The company got the go-ahead to expand its driverless ride services in San Francisco back in August then cut back its operations by 50% barely more than a week later after several incidents involving its vehicles. In October, Cruise lost its permit in California entirely after an incident in which a pedestrian was dragged beneath one of its driverless vehicles 20 feet after it ran her over after she was first struck by a different car. "Cruise has made the difficult decision to reduce a portion of the contingent workforce that supported driverless ridehail operations," a Cruise spokesperson told Insider.

Struggling Cruise Cuts About 25 Percent of Its Workers

The shut down came two days after California’s Department of Motor Vehicles said that the company “misrepresented” its technology and ordered Cruise to stop operating in the state. Elshenawy was listed as the author of the memo informing staff of the layoffs, which offered details about severance, benefits and career support. Laid-off Cruise employees are being offered at least 16 weeks of pay after their departures. Prior to the crash, the company also operated robotaxi services in Austin, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona, and had plans to launch in Houston, Dallas, and Miami, among other cities. But GM isn’t ready to pull back completely from self-driving technology like some of its competitors.

Many of you will be impacted because we aren't commercializing as quickly, and therefore don't need support in certain cities or facilities. We didn't take any of these decisions lightly, though I know that isn't much of a consolation if you're someone affected by the actions we are taking today. Proposed initiatives to address this include a website that would allow people to easily report unexpected behavior by Cruise cars to the company. John Krafcik, the former CEO of Waymo, Cruise’s primary rival, who stepped down from that position two years ago, told Forbes in an email that Cruise and GM should have undertaken a more measured approach to public safety during its rollout to get it right the first time. During the November 6 call, Vogt acknowledged that his suggestion that layoffs might be coming in the previous week’s all-hands had been “extremely stressful” for employees.

On Oct. 24, the state Department of Motor Vehicles suspended its license for Cruise, ending the company's transportation of passengers without human drivers throughout San Francisco. According to the recall notice filed with federal regulators, the Cruise "inaccurately characterized the collision as a lateral collision," which led the vehicle to pull over out of traffic instead of remaining still. Wrapping up the meeting, Vogt and other executives tried to exude confidence that the company would bounce back. Now leading the company is General Motors General Counsel Craig Glidden, who is serving as co-president with Cruise Chief Technology Officer Mo Elshenawy. “It felt like we were not being told the full story when folks left, especially when Dan and Kyle left,” the former employee said.

Media Services

The workers, contracted through third-party vendors or staffing agencies, also fielded questions from riders about items left behind in vehicles. General Motors' Cruise on Thursday announced internally that it will lay off 900 employees, or 24% of its workforce, the company confirmed to CNBC. Along with the strategy shift, the company is now considering “inviting external safety reviewers including the strongest AV safety critics to review our safety strategy and practices,” said Louise Zhang, Cruise’s vice president for safety and systems, who spoke during the meeting. She did not elaborate on who these reviewers might be, or the sort of access they would be given to Cruise’s internal processes.

This is one of the hardest days we've had so far because so many talented people are leaving. I'm thankful we had the chance to work together, and I know I speak on behalf of so many Cruisers who will be reaching out to those departing to help with our professional networks and references. On behalf of the SLT, the Cruise Board and GM, I'm truly grateful to everyone who has played a role in building Cruise and who has poured so much into the promise of making our roads safer and our world better. In a few moments, you will receive an email letting you know whether or not you are affected by this staffing reduction. We knew this day was coming, but that does not make it any less difficult—especially for those whose jobs are affected. In GM's third-quarter earnings update, the company said it had lost roughly $1.9 billion on Cruise through September of this year.

(It had vehicles in Arizona, Texas, and Florida as well.) In response to the pause in operations, GM said it would reduce spending on Cruise and appoint its own executives to oversee the company. GM and the Cruise board have been scrambling ever since the October 2 incident put the company in the crosshairs of state, local and federal agencies. However, Cruise’s robotaxi operations in San Francisco had been criticized by the public and city officials almost immediately after the California Public Utilities Commission issued the company in August the final permit required to operate commercially. Videos of Cruise robotaxis blocking traffic and driving into a construction site were shared on social media.

The cuts are part of a broader restructuring to focus the robotaxi unit on a narrower path to commercialization. Instead of expanding its commercial robotaxi service to multiple US cities, the company will relaunch its currently paused service in just one. Inside the company, employees say morale is flagging amid withering public scrutiny and now executive warnings about job cuts. During the hour-long meeting, executives outlined damage control operations ranging from internal “listening sessions” to proposed public-facing websites that would detail collisions involving Cruise cars or allow people to post comments describing their interactions with the vehicles. And a humbled CEO Kyle Vogt confirmed to employees that the company will need to do layoffs.

California regulators said the company's vehicles posed "an unreasonable risk to public safety." And internal documents recently showed that Cruise apparently knew that its driverless cars had trouble correctly identifying children. Cruise co-founder and CEO Kyle Vogt told employees during an all-hands meeting Monday that layoffs were coming, sources who were on the call told TechCrunch. California’s Department of Motor Vehicles pulled Cruise’s operating permit, citing that the vehicles “are not safe for the public’s operation” and “misrepresentation” of the car’s technology. A few weeks later, Cruise paused all of its operations in other cities, including Austin, Houston, Dallas, Miami, and Phoenix. Affected employees were primarily in the company’s commercial operations division, as well as related corporate functions, a spokesperson said. The company stated layoffs for some workers before telling The Standard that it had made "the difficult decision to reduce a portion of the contingent workforce that supported driverless ride-hail operations."

Cruise’s announcement Thursday that it would cut around a quarter of its staff came at the tail-end of months of chaos and what a laid-off employee characterized as an internal lack of transparency at the company that helped sow distrust internally. Cruise’s board of directors held a regularly-scheduled meeting at the company’s San Francisco headquarters this past Monday. Following that meeting, the company put out a series of announcements indicating that it would “further steps to enhance safety and transparency,” including hiring a new executive and expanding its outside investigation into the circumstances of its fateful October 2 incident.

Cruise, the embattled GM self-driving car subsidiary, is laying off 900 employees, or about 24% of its workforce, TechCrunch has exclusively learned. The layoffs are part of a plan to slash costs and attempt to revamp the company following an October 2 incident that left a pedestrian stuck under and then dragged by one of its robotaxis. The company told employees the decision was made for a few reasons, including that driverless operations had been paused or “deprioritized as we focus on supervised driving for the time being,” according to an internal message sent early Thursday morning and viewed by TechCrunch. The accident — and its fallout — have called into question the future of the tech and auto industry’s pursuit of self-driving cars.

The sacking of around 900 employees is the latest blow to the General Motors-owned company still reeling from the impact of an Oct. 2 incident in San Francisco, where a Cruise vehicle struck and dragged a woman nearly 20 feet after she was first hit by a human-driven vehicle. In the aftermath, the company hired two outside law firms to review Cruise’s safety protocols as well as determine whether Cruise purposefully withheld video footage from the California DMV of its driverless vehicle dragging the hit-and-run victim to the side of the road. The company issued a voluntary recall of all 950 Cruise vehicles earlier this month to update the software to prevent similar incidents in the future. A day after word of job cuts spread at Cruise, the autonomous vehicle robotaxi company announced it is laying off contractors who worked on its ride-hailing services. As a result of our decision to slow down commercialization, we are restructuring to focus on delivering the improvements to our tech and vehicle performance that will build trust in our AVs. Cruise today vs Cruise moving forwardAs we've shared, our goal is to focus our work on a fully driverless L4 service that meets a new AV performance bar, prioritize the Bolt platform, relaunch ridehail in one city to start, and enhance our safety standards and processes before we scale.

The robotaxi initiated its brakes and came to a stop with the pedestrian under the vehicle. That final decision by the robotaxi to attempt to pull over was part of the reason the agencies decided to suspend the permit. The company laid off Thursday contingent workers, people who were employed to support its driverless fleet.

Katie Holmes, daughter Suri seen during rare outing in LA

There was once a rumor that Taylor Swift was going to star alongside Tom Cruise in "Rock of Ages," but it was Katie Holmes that she ended up working with. After starring alongside Swift in the 2014 movie "The Giver," Holmes had nothing but praise for the pop powerhouse. "I just think she is so smart. She's so young, really brilliant and works very, very hard." In other words, she's exactly the type of role model a mom would want her tween to have. Suri sings the wistful classic "Blue Moon" in "Alone Together," a 2022 film written and directed by her mom.

Does Tom Cruise see Suri Cruise?

The youngster was unveiled to the world as a newborn baby on the cover of Vanity Fair in 2006, but her mom has since taken steps to shield her from the spotlight as much as possible. For Holmes, hobbies like sewing, painting and writing "became new hallmarks of satisfaction" in the household. Calling her work environment a "safe, beautiful, creative space," Holmes explained that being able enlist Cruise's talents "comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly."

Katie Holmes had to defend Suri Cruise's fashion choices

TMZ previously reported that since the divorce, he would pay $400,000 a month in child support until Suri turned 18 years old. While a source told us at the time that Tom has played “no part” in his daughter’s life, another Hollywood insider told us this week that the father-daughter duo haven’t seen each other since 2012. Perhaps you noticed that Suri Cruise was usually wearing skirts and dresses back when she was papped on the reg. "I'd put a pair of pants on her and the next minute I'd turn around and the pants are off and a dress is on," Tom Cruise told Grazia (via X17) in 2008. In a 2011 interview with Elle (via Huffpost), Kate Holmes revealed, "Today I'm wearing brown suede pants, and [Suri] said, 'I don't like your pants.'" She was lucky that Suri let her be seen out in public in them. "She won't let me leave unless I'm wearing what she wants me to wear," Holmes said on "Live with Regis and Kelly" in 2010 (via OK!).

She was a big Disney princess fan

While public perception suggests a certain detachment on Tom’s part from his daughter’s life, divorce documents paint a different picture. It is revealed that Tom has committed to providing Holmes with an annual child support sum of US$400,000 until Suri reaches the age of 18, as reported by Hello! Despite the legal arrangement, the public eye has failed to capture any shared moments between the estranged duo for over a decade, leaving the nature of their relationship shrouded in mystery. In December 2022, Holmes wore a Y2K-inspired outfit on the red carpet that featured a mini dress over jeans and sneakers.

"She's her mother and father's dress up doll and I feel in many ways she's a fashion victim," he told Access (via Today) in 2010. He also said of Suri's famous toddler-sized high heels, "It's really inappropriate." "Hobbies such as sewing, painting and writing became new hallmarks of satisfaction and having had time at home to just be," Holmes wrote at the time. "To listen. To live for a moment in time without the pressure of results and instead appreciate the natural rhythms of mother and daughter was the most precious gift." In an interview with Variety, Holmes revealed that they watched plenty of shows together, including Dawson’s Creek (2008) – the hit show that launched Holmes’ career. Holmes is likely doubly protective of her only child given her highly publicized and seemingly traumatic divorce from Suri’s dad, Tom Cruise. Holmes spoke about her desire to keep her teenager safe in an unusually personal interview earlier this month. The mother-daughter duo was photographed at Los Angeles International Airport Monday night ahead of a flight to an unknown destination.

Back in March, Page Six reported that the “Top Gun” actor, who is involved with Scientology, hasn’t seen his daughter in years and has almost zero part of her life. “What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” she told Glamour at the time. The teenager most recently sang in the soundtrack for “Rare Objects,” which Holmes wrote, directed and starred in. Suri is following her mum’s footsteps in the entertainment industry and has wowed audiences with her impressive singing voice. Just last year, she was heard in Holmes’ film Alone Together, singing “Blue Moon” in the opening credits. During the Covid-19 pandemic, they reportedly quarantined together at home and binge-watched one of Holmes’ iconic TV shows.

"To live for a moment in time without the pressure of results," Holmes recalled in a Nov. 2020 essay for Vogue Australia, "and instead appreciate the natural rhythms of mother and daughter was the most precious gift." Despite her success, however, Holmes said that she never pressured her daughter to watch her work. “She has seen Dawson’s Creek, and I think it’s probably weird since she’s a teenager. I’m not like, ‘You need to watch mummy’s work.’ But during the pandemic, we had a good laugh about it. It’s wild to have a daughter who’s almost the same age as I was when I began all this,” she said in the Variety interview. Drawing upon my extensive experience in celebrity reporting, I’ve observed Suri’s journey from being a child under the constant media spotlight to a young woman forging her own path.

When Suri Cruise was just two years old, Tom Cruise told Extra that she was fond of singing. But it was Katie Holmes who would eventually convince Suri to showcase her vocal talent in one of her projects. One month after Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's five-year marriage ended in 2012, Tom took Suri Cruise to Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park in Florida. He was photographed being an attentive dad during the outing — there were smiles aplenty as he and Suri splashed around in a pool, and he made their time together even more fun by tossing her up in the air. In 2016, Us Weekly reported that the father and daughter hadn't been spotted together again since then. News that Suri didn't just do as she pleased when it came to picking out her trendy apparel.

"It's very important that I'm present and she has a stable, innocent childhood. I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there's nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed," she added. "This business is so unstable, and you never really know where you're going to be … My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now," she said in Town & Country's April 2017 issue. Despite her many acting roles, Holmes has said that being a mother is the job she finds the most fulfilling.

However, she doesn't appear in the movie; her vocals are featured in its opening credits. In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Holmes praised her daughter's performance by giving her the type of effusive compliment that will make teens roll their eyes. "I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her!" the proud mom gushed.

With this early success, Suri Cruise is poised to navigate the entertainment world under the nurturing guidance of her mother, indicating a compelling journey ahead. Now, as Suri turns 17 in 2023, she stands at the threshold of adulthood, poised to embark on an academic journey. The glimpses of her life in New York City, captured in rare media appearances, reflect a young woman determined to shape her own identity, independent of her parents’ fame. My analysis provides an insightful look into Suri’s life, exploring how she has navigated her unique circumstances and is now stepping confidently into her future.

She was the spitting image of her mom as she kept a denim jacket draped over one arm and a bulky backpack slung over the other shoulder. Holmes, who is famously private about her daughter, also spoke about her protectiveness as a mother. However, that's not to say Holmes isn't open to Cruise being involved in her work. The actress and director enlisted her daughter to sing songs in her 2022 film "Alone Together" and her upcoming feature, "Rare Objects."

Micajah McGregor, Editor in Chief of FanFest.com and renowned entertainment journalist, graduated from USC with a focus on Journalism and Film Studies. Known for his financial analysis of celebrity net worths, Micajah received the ‘Digital Editor of the Year’ award in 2018.

"To be honest? I'm not going to play tag, probably. That's not top of my list. But I'll paint all day, I'll do the creative stuff." "Motherhood means everything to me," Holmes said in a PEOPLE cover story in November 2014. "I'm learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mom." From lessons in motherhood that she's learned along the way to how they bonded during the pandemic, here's everything Katie Holmes has said about parenting her daughter Suri. It's hard to believe, but on April 18, 2024, Suri Cruise — the only child of "Dawson's Creek" actress Katie Holmes and former husband Tom Cruise — celebrates her 18th birthday. TMZ previously reported that the divorce settlement required Tom to pay child support of USD $400,000 (approx. AU $624,836) per year until Suri is 18.

Cruise gift cards: What you need to know before buying

disney cruise gift card

You can transfer these vouchers to another person as a gift without a charge. Carnival's gift cards are available in over 9,000 retail outlets, including Best Buy, Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Lowe's, Safeway, Winn-Dixie and Publix. You can buy as many cards as you'd like, but there is a maximum online transaction of five gift cards at one time. Princess Cruises also offers gift cards on its website in denominations between $5 and $2,000.

BYOB and skip the extras

Every dollar helps, whether the money goes towards the cruise fare or buying a popular add-on, such as a drink package, spa treatment, or shore excursion. These certificates can be purchased online if you know the recipient's reservation information, or you can call Celebrity's Store Customer Support team to place an order. Classic Gift Cards cannot be mailed to Canada, so Canadian residents should choose the eGift Card option. The line offers one or two sales a year that feature an added perk, such as a $100 bonus card with a $1,000 purchase.

Can I pay for my cruise with Disney gift cards?”

One advantage of a Disney gift card is you could use it for non-cruise purchases, such as at a Disney park or other Disney business venture. You cannot use the gift card to pay for land excursions as part of a cruisetour, flights booked through Princess or gratuities. If you can't find any affordable prices, I recommend scrolling the cruise list by price instead of starting with the perfect date or itinerary. A sailing you may not have initially considered may turn out to be the perfect vacation option. I booked our Alaska cruise for the summer of 2023 the day the calendar opened this year because the price typically increases as the sailing date nears.

Cruise line gift cards: Where to buy them, how to spend them

Cruisers will appreciate a gift they can use toward purchasing their cruise fare or splurging on a beverage package, specialty restaurant or spa treatment. Don't rule out the first-timers on your list; you can help them fund their first foray into cruising or surprise them with something extra to make their upcoming trip special. First of all, go ahead and take a picture of the back of your gift card where you can visibly see the card number and the pin number.

If you're a cruiser, you may also want to purchase a gift card for yourself, especially when you can find a deal. AARP sometimes offers digital gift cards for cruise lines like Princess, Holland America, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean at a savings of up to 10%. Most cruise gift certificates are available in US dollars only, although Disney does offer gift cards in Canadian dollars. In addition, the majority are not available for residents outside of Canada and the United States, so not suitable for out of country friends and family.

Everyone loves a deal, and occasionally there are some promotions on gift cards. Associations such as AARP have also had discounts on cards, so review current memberships/ associations for any offerings. These advance purchase vouchers can be used to pay for cruises of six days or longer and are valued at double the price.

To send the gift, you'll need to know some personal information, including the birth date of the recipient or the reservation number for the booking. I've received a port day discount that was about 20% off because most people book their treatments on sea days, and the spa is less busy when the ship is docked. The Disney Visa also advertises a 20% discount on select massages or facials on port days on an ongoing basis.

Their loyalty card “ The Target REDcard” (a debit card) provides an automatic 5% discount on any purchase at Target, including gift cards. There are also Black Friday deals with Sam’s Club, with reductions as high as 10% off Disney gift cards.

Princess Cruises

Celebrity and Royal Caribbean have the most limitations on what gift cards can be used for. Government fees, taxes, onboard gratuities, games of chance (casino) cannot be paid using gift cards. Alternatively, you can also purchase Disney gift cards at retail locations throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada.

Yes, Disney Cruise Line costs more than Carnival or Royal Caribbean, but throw away the notion that a Disney cruise is unattainably expensive. The peak school break weeks are expensive, but with so many three- and four-night sailings, you can choose a long weekend and avoid those pricey weeks if you want to. If, for instance, you purchase a physical Princess Cruises gift card valued at $100 USD or more, you will get free First-Class USPS shipping. If the amount charged is less than that, the remaining sum will be applied to the passenger's onboard account. Celebrity Cruises has an online store where you can purchase onboard credit to celebrate someone's birthday, honeymoon, anniversary or other memorable occasion while on their cruise.

Add food costs on top of that, and you're almost certainly well above the price of a Disney cruise. You'll put 20% down when you first book and then have until much closer to sailing to pay off the remaining 80%. If your sailing goes to Disney Cruise Line's private island, Castaway Cay, beach chairs, umbrellas, the ocean waterslide and lunch on the island are also included at no extra charge.

That happened to us during the pandemic, and the money came back automatically and without a problem once the 24 months were up. Not all credit card points can easily translate to a "free" Disney cruise, but some can. You can log onto the Disney Cruise Line website and book the cruise yourself, but you may not want to when you know a travel agent can do the work for you — and give you some credit back in the process.

You can purchase up to $2,000 in gift certificates for someone that they can use towards the purchase of a cruise or onboard credit toward the spa, gift shop, bar, specialty restaurants and more. Remember that handy disneygiftcard.com account I mentioned earlier (and you created)? Since you loaded your cards on this account (and probably combined balances), you will now be able to put a new card on that account, and simply transfer your refunded balance onto the new Disney Gift Card.

Sometimes, these discounts get even bigger around sales such as Black Friday. But on an ongoing basis, you can usually get a $500 Disney gift card for about $485. If you're a Rakuten fan, they often offer cash back on cruise line gift cards.

You can sail for roughly the same price from Galveston, Texas to Mexico on Disney Magic in January 2023 on a four-night cruise to Mexico for just $1,441 for two people in a balcony cabin. Good luck finding a hotel you actually want to stay at that weekend for three nights in Miami for that price — and remember this $1,256 rate is the price for the entire cruise experience, not just the room. In addition, buyers cannot purchase an aggregate amount exceeding $10,000 in one day.

Canceling a cruise online offers convenience and efficiency, allowing for quick and easy access to account information and the ability to make changes or cancel reservations at any time.
